So this week I finally received my Pottermore e-mail. I was overjoyed, my friends all thought I was a nut case. I was happily making my way through The Philosopher’s Stone when I came to the Sorting Hat. My heart started beating faster with excitement as I answered all the questions. When my screen came up bright green with the tell-tale snake emblem, I starred in disbelief. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think there is anything wrong with Slytherin at all, it was just the last house I expected to be placed in. I was fully expecting to be put in Hufflepuff or maybe Ravenclaw, Slytherin never even crossed my mind. Reading through the description of the house I was now a part of, it wasn’t making sense. “We’re like our emblem, the snake: sleek, powerful and frequently misunderstood”…”one of the elite”….”respected out of fear”…it just doesn’t seem to fit my personality, I don’t think. This shouldn’t bother me as much as it does, and maybe I truly do belong in Slytherin, but I am still sorting through it…no pun intended. For now, I am going to embrace my “Slytherin greatness” and proudly support the silver and green.
